New Hanover County Fire Rescue is a full service department. We provide many services to the citizens and visitors of New Hanover County. New Hanover County has more than 198,000 year round residents and that number increases greatly during the peak summer season between May and October. With a normal average high temperature of 74°F and a normal average low temperature of 53.5°F, New Hanover County, North Carolina is an ideal place to live and retire. Recognized as the midpoint between the North and South, many people have decided to call New Hanover County home.
New Hanover County Fire Rescue provides many services, including Fire Suppression, Technical Rescue, Motor Vehicle Extrication, Hazardous Materials Release Response, Urban Search and Rescue, Water Rescue, Code Enforcement, Arson Investigations, Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspections, Fire Safety and Prevention, and Medical First Response.
Fire Suppression - New Hanover County Fire Rescue provides fire suppression activities to the un-incorporated areas of New Hanover County. This includes both residential and commercial occupancies.
Technical Rescue - Technical Rescue services are provided for high angle, trench, and confined space emergencies.
Motor Vehicle Extrication - New Hanover County Fire Rescue provides extrication for people who are trapped in vehicles as a result of motor vehicle crashes.
Hazardous Materials Release Response - We respond to all Hazardous Materials incidents within the un-incorporated areas of New Hanover County. We provide services at the operations level and rely on the City of Wilmington Fire Department for Technician level responses. New Hanover County has several Haz-Mat Technicians on staff providing initial response and size up, but does not have the equipment or resources to mitigate a technician level response.
Urban Search and Rescue - New Hanover County and the City of Wilmington Fire Department make up North Carolina Taskforce 11 (NCTF11). NCTF11 is part of the North Carolina USAR response and protects a multi-county area. Specially trained personnel are ready to respond to USAR deployments at all times.
Water Rescue - Surrounded on three sides by water. New Hanover County Fire Rescue operates several water rescue craft and has several personnel specifically trained and certified in surface water rescue operations.
Code Enforcement - NCHFR provides code enforcement activities within the un-incorporated areas of New Hanover County and Wrightsville and Kure Beach. Code Enforcement personnel enforce fire prevention codes to insure the safety of the citizens and visitors of New Hanover County.
Arson Investigations - NCHFR provides specifically trained personnel to investigate all fires of unknown and suspicious origins. These personnel work closely with local law enforcement and prosecutors to address fires of a malicious nature.
Child Passenger Safety Seat Inspections - New Hanover County Fire Rescue provides child passenger safety seat inspections and installations to insure the safety of future generations.
Fire Safety and Prevention - NHCFR provides many fire safety and prevention programs. One of the most popular programs offered by NHCFR is the Carolina Fire Crew. This fire prevention team is made up of several active duty fire suppression personnel who travel to events and deliver fire safety messages through songs, skits, and dances to children of all ages.
Medical First Response - All NHCFR personnel are trained medical responders. We provide emergency medical response to the citizens and visitors of New Hanover County. Our staff can provide critical life saving interventions until advance medical aid arrives.
