New Hanover County Fire Rescue Department is a county based fire department for New Hanover County, located on the Southeast coast of North Carolina. The county has a year round population of over 200,000, which increases substantially during the peak season months of May through October. NHCFR is a combination department consisting of more than 200 personnel. This includes full time, part time, and volunteer staff. New Hanover County is the sole provider of fire protection for the un-incorporated areas of New Hanover County. NHCFR responds to more than 6000 emergency calls per year. NHCFR is a full service department which responds to incidents of all types, including medical emergencies, fires, automobile accidents, technical rescues, and Hazardous Materials events.

Improved Insurance Rates!

New Hanover County Fire Rescue has received an improved Fire District Insurance Rating from the Department of Insurance, Office of the State Fire Marshal. The unincorporated areas of New Hanover County have now been divided into two fire districts, one north and one south. The Southern Fire District has received a 4 response rating and the Northern Fire District has received a 4/9E response rating. The new Fire Districts become effecive July 1, 2012.
